We're thinking BIG

It's almost October which, for us scribblers, means only one thing... The Big Draw and we're pleased as punch to be hosting two rather special doodling events as part of the National Campaign for Drawing. The lovely folks at Mushroom Works are letting us transform their gallery space into one giant canvas and we're inviting everyone (yep, everyone) to come down and draw on the walls with us.  The result will be an extremely happy giant communal doodle.

The events are also part of the wonderful Design Event Festival held across the North East region.

Curiouser and curiouser...

Quite some time ago now we mentioned the Alice in Wonderland postcard pack we were working on. Well, they were printed a while ago now and we're pleased to report that they're selling well. Here's how they turned out.

Well, Hello!

Jeeez we've been busy! The last few months have been wonderfully crazy. Since we last posted we've produced a set of Alice in Wonderland postcards, had an exhibition at Durham Art Gallery, another at Northern Stage, a Big Draw, a Drink and a Draw and now we're working on our Christmas markets and planning some fun times with our new friends The Cloud Commission and The Project Club. So, rather than ramble on about how marvellous all these things are, let's post a few pictures, they tell a thousands words, don't you know...

ps. You can see a whole load more pics on our facebook page and  Northern Stage's Facebook page in their albums

Nice to meet you

Last night we had our monthly meet, which was at The Cluny, instead of our usual haunt, Northern Stage. We chose The Cluny as we all wanted to see the show at Northern Print, Printer Designer Maker (which is full of lots of lovely work!)

We had a really good constructive meeting, discussing our next show at Durham Art Gallery, our latest group project (Alice in Wonderland postcard packs) and our upcoming show about northernness. At the end of the meetings we always try to have a group crit - where we'll talk about our independent projects. There's a lot going on! Josie's working hard on a gorgeous storybook, Debs has been organising another group show with the Umber Printers, Lara's been working on some stationary designs and Clare, well Clare brought some friends for us to meet. These gorgeous little ladies and gentlemen in the photo are Clare's latest creations. They're very cute in real life and incredibly green too as they're all made from recycled materials. Upcycled cuties, if you please!

Ooh and Bethan, she's possibly the busiest of us all as she's going to have her hands full this summer with a beautiful baby, which is due this week. More info on baby Laker/Crowson soon. X

11th June 2010 - Last chance to see Sprung (featuring wor Deborah!)

There's still time to catch the Umber Printmaker's Exhibition, one of Newcastle's Artists in Empty Shops projects. They've currently exhibiting in an empty shop space (the former Roots music shop in Newcastle, it's next to Newcastle Arts Centre) from Saturday 15th May until Saturday 12 June. They are showcasing their latest monoprints, etchings, mezzotints & woodcuts.
The exhibition includes work by fellow drawer Deborah Snell and three other rather marvellous print makers, Joanna Bourne, Jacqueline Quinn and Michelle Wood who exhibit under the name Umber Printmakers.

A definate 'go see' if you're in Newcastle tomorrow.

What am I like?

Set of Drawers (are very excited to) have been invited to show alongside some amazing illustrators, including Quentin Blake, Lauren Child, Sara Fanelli, Jan Pienkowski, Mini Grey and David Shrigley (we could go on and on, there are some brilliant and truly inspiring folks taking part in this show) as part of Durham Art Gallery's summer exhibition, What Are You Like?

Josie and Lara have been in Durham today - measuring up the space - it's going to be a great exhibition. The show opens on Saturday 24th July (For a sneak preview and drinks you can pop down on Friday 23rd July at 6pm, just tell them we sent you, we're sure they won't mind.)

Birthday Bumps and Books

One for all our Newcastle based followers... Next time you are passing the city library, don't forget to look in on Bethan's giant birthday card - it will be on display for the next few weeks to mark the lovely library one year on.

You can find out a little more about the card and a lot more about Bethan on her blog. Enjoy x
